Year 2 of the Robert Saleh era with the New York Jets gets underway when his team hosts Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. Jackson only has one career game on his resume against the Jets, and although he finished with just 212 passing yards in that start, he tossed five touchdowns and ran for 86 yards on eight carries. He gets his shot for a repeat performance against a Jets defense that gave up the third-most passing yards last season. You can stream the game in select markets on Paramount+.
Kickoff for Ravens vs. Jets is set for 1 p.m. ET at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands. Week 1 NFL picks for Jets vs. Ravens
Before tuning into Sunday’s Ravens vs. Jets game, you need to see the NFL picks from SportsLine’s advanced computer model. The model, which simulates every NFL game 10,000 times, is up over $7,500 for $100 players on top-rated NFL picks since its inception. The model enters the 2022 NFL season on an incredible 138-97 run on top-rated NFL picks that dates back to the 2017 season. Amazingly, it hasn’t missed a top-rated pick since Week 15 of last season.
The model also ranked in the top 10 on NFLPickWatch four of the past six years on straight-up NFL picks and beat more than 94% of CBS Sports Football Pick’em players four times during that span. Anyone who has followed it is way up.
For Ravens vs. Jets, the model is backing the Ravens to cover as seven-point favorites. The Jets had the fourth-lowest offensive points per game average last season (18.2) and gave up the most points per game (29.6).
The Ravens’ offense took a different form to start last season after its three top running backs suffered season-ending injuries in the preseason. Baltimore had no choice but to throw the ball more with Jackson, who was particularly hot in Weeks 3, 4, and 5, when he passed for 1,045 yards, six touchdowns and just one interception. The Jets also gave up the fourth-most passing yards to opposing tight ends last year, which sets up well for Baltimore’s Mark Andrews, who led all tight ends with 1,361 yards and nine scores in 2021.
Baltimore’s defense blitzed opponents at the sixth-highest rate last season, and that could be a problem for Jets QB Joe Flacco. Flacco is stepping in for injured former first-rounder Zach Wilson, who is recovering from meniscus surgery. The model still predicts Flacco will come away with 250 yards and at least one touchdown pass, but it won’t be enough, as the Ravens cover the spread in just over half of all simulations.
